Our Technology

Did you know that people have trouble scanning a single RFID tag, often unable to avoid reading surrounding tags?
For decades, the RFID industry has been telling customers that “you can’t reliably read just one tag with UHF RFID”, but now you can with RecoHand™. RecoHand™ is designed to only read tags within about two centimeters of your finger, ignoring all the stray tags around it.
Which means you simply touch (or nearly touch) a tagged object with a gloved hand to read the unique ID on the tag.
RecoHand™ was nominated as a FINALIST for the BEST NEW PRODUCT AWARD at RFID Journal LIVE 2024!

Our Solution

WHERE it works?

In any situation where you have to use a barcode scanner (even when RFID tags are present) in order to ensure a one-to-one read.

Retail

Customers often feel stressed waiting in line at checkout, and there are instances where store staff make mistakes when picking items for curbside and in-store pickup as well as ship-from-store orders. RecoHand™ helps enable a seamless mobile POS experience where customers can pay without waiting in line, simply by handing items to staff in-store. Staff can now instantly and accurately capture item information without the need for visual label checks or scanning barcodes. In one motion, as the staff grabs items, they are receiving feedback.

Health Care

RecoHand is effective for managing expired pharmaceuticals and improving the efficiency of picking medical supplies. For example, are you currently checking the expiration dates of pharmaceuticals by manually picking up each item in a tray and scanning barcodes? Even if you can read all items at once with RFID, finding a single expired item can be a tedious task. Additionally, if you are visually confirming product information or scanning barcodes during picking, there is significant room for human error. Since RecoHand™ does not require a line of sight, it allows for extremely fast and accurate feedback while performing picking tasks.

Logistics

RecoHand makes it easier to receive items and provide a quality check during sorting, picking, or whenever RFID-tagged items or cartons are handled. Delivery drivers often find it very difficult to find what they need to deliver in their packed vehicles. The “last mile” is often the longest mile spent searching for the package they need. Now they can simply touch the RFID tags on the packages and shelves while they load-up, so that when they get to the delivery address they know where the right package is, doing it all without worry that an incorrect tag could’ve been mis-scanned.

Manufacturing

When detecting RFID tags on parts, boxes, and tools, RecoHand provides the necessary information for each assembly task while performing routine operations, contributing to worker efficiency. Additionally, it naturally captures detailed process information—such as who touched or held what and when— without adding extra work for the operators, enabling the identification of process bottlenecks and high-precision delivery management.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of applications are RFID readers used for?

RFID readers are most commonly used to efficiently manage inventory, including stocktaking, recording incoming and outgoing shipments, and determining the location of RFID-tagged items. Often these functions are meant to happen quickly and at a distance, both a strength as well as a weakness.
RecoHand™ is useful for picking, sorting, packing, and other situations where one-by-one reading is required; it is a device that can overcome the weakness of the UHF band: reading too many items at once.

What is the difference between a handheld RFID reader and RecoHand™?

RecoHand™ can scan exactly the RFID tags you want to read and nothing else. The reading area is located at the tip of your finger, so you can scan the tag while handling the RFID-tagged item and doing other tasks at the same time.

How long does the battery last and how long does it take to fully charge?

Battery life is about 4 hours of continuous use. Charging takes approximately 6 hours.

Do you sell just the gloves?

Yes. We sell replacement gloves, or extra gloves for scenarios such as multiple people sharing the same reader but each with their own glove.

How can I use the RecoHand with my current solution?

We have SDKs available for Android, iOS, and Windows. We can also provide demo apps for trials free of charge.
